Westmoreland County, PA — Authorities say two juveniles who escaped from the Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Facility over the weekend have been caught.
Police say 14-year-old Robert Anthony Cogdell and 16-year-old Braedon Matthew Dickinson were reportedly captured overnight in Fayette County.
Troopers say the pair escaped from the facility Saturday evening.
Officials say the teens led police on a brief foot pursuit prior to being taken into custody.
Troopers say the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation and apprehension of the teens.
In response to the teens' escape, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #62 released the following statement:
There are inherent risks facing our law enforcement every day. What happened over the weekend was very preventable and jeopardized not only public safety, but the safety of law enforcement. Our entire nation is seeing an increase in youthful violent offenders, and this county is no different. We need a secure facility in place to house serious and violent juvenile offenders without the probability of them returning to the streets to reoffend. In this instance one of the offenders is being held on homicide charges, among other violent charges. Upon their escape a motor vehicle and a firearm were stolen. Had these juveniles not been housed in an unsecured shelter, they would not of had the opportunity to jeopardize countless members of the public or law enforcement. Pennsylvania State Troopers will always answer the call to help, but the amount of resources exhausted this past weekend, and the lives it endangered is incomprehensible.ncG1vNJzZmivmpawtcKNnKamZ56axLR7y6iamqRfn8K3sc2io56rXaW8rbXCnmSeq5OWvaZ51p6qraWfp7Ktrc2dZJ%2BZqZrBtbGMqaqpZaSnvLC8xKuqZqGeq7K0wMigmK2hn6N6pL7IppxmqKWnwLa10w%3D%3D
