Local and state leaders gathered in Altoona Thursday for the grand opening of a new PA CareerLink location inside the Altoona Area Public Library.

Officials say the new location will assist students and job seekers with finding local training and job opportunities.

Representatives from the Department of Labor and Industry say the programs also help businesses find talented employees.

CareerLink officials say the new location is more accessible and will help broaden their reach.

Site administrator Gwen Fisher hopes the new library location and the new office in Duncansville can help serve Blair County.

"We knew we had an opportunity to serve the public a little bit better if we could get centrally located in town,” Fisher explained. “So we are now on the public transportation route now that we are inside of the library and it gives a whole new set of people access to our services that they didn't have before.”

Eileen Cipriani, deputy state secretary for workforce development, said, "So it's an opportunity for our student and job seekers to come right here to the library and learn about opportunities that are available for them locally, and learn about education and training opportunities so that they can be trained and develop the skills they need."

Fisher says in the month since CareerLink opened library traffic increased by 2,000 visitors.
