
STONINGTON, C.T. (WJAR) — Connecticut State Police announced a K-9 officer was killed in the line of duty.
State police said K-9 Broko gave his life protecting his handler and fellow troopers on Thursday.
K9 Broko heroically served with unwavering dedication, saving lives by locating missing individuals, apprehending dangerous suspects, and providing a steadfast shield to his handler,” Connecticut State Police said in a statement Friday. “K9 Broko ultimately sacrificed his life doing what he was known best for.”On Thursday night, there was a police procession in honor of K-9 Broko.
As of Friday morning, police released little information about what the department described as officer-involved shooting. One person was also seriously hurt during the incident. That person's name and condition were not immediately known.
According to police, state officers were serving an active felony arrest warrant shortly after 7:30 p.m. at a home in Pawcatuck, which is a village in Stonington.
State troopers attempted to serve the warrants before an apparent altercation.
Parts of the street were completely blocked off. State police said there was no threat to the public.
The shooting is under investigation.
